Die cutting process
It’s a fabrication process whereby a die is used to cut through soft materials such as paper, cardboard and fabrics on a die press; it allows you to make an identical cut into material numerous times and with very precise profiles and even complex shapes. Introduced in the mid-20th century in the footwear industry to shape footwear leather, today this process is supported by the use of technology and has many manufacturing applications in a variety of industries from the printing industry to the leather sector. To make the cut, the so-called die is used, a wooden surface with steel blades and rubber.
The steel blades are fixed on the die cutter which changes according to the type of die, thus obtaining : flatbed die cutting where the blades are fixed on a wooden surface; rotary die cutting where the blades are fixed on a wooden cylinder; forged die cutting where the blades and its support are forged in one single piece.
